Being unable to help or soothe your suffering child is every parent’s worst nightmare. And this mother knows the pain all too well after watching her baby girl grow deathly ill from a horrifying infection. The bizarre case left even the doctors stumped.
It all started when mother, Savina French-Bell threw a birthday party for her daughter, Sienna, for her second birthday. This season of Toddler-hood is called the “Terrible Two’s”. And that is exactly what happened to sweet Sienna. Her second year of life was indeed terrible.
Shortly after the little princess turned two, her mother noticed a rash break out on her baby’s face. The rash quickly spread over her entire face.
Bell took her daughter to the doctor where they told her it was eczema. They tried to treat it but the rash only worsened.
Mother Savina told Inside Edition, “It started to look like someone had thrown acid over her face, it spread from her mouth to her cheeks, and above her eyes.”
Desperately trying to help her little one, Sienna was allergy tested, changed her diet, tried creams and ointments. Nothing seemed to do the trick. It only seemed to encourage the rash to grow.
Weeks turned into months as they painfully waited for there to be a breakthrough. But Sienna just stopped eating. She had ulcers in her mouth and the pain was intolerable. This meant yet another trip to the hospital where Sienna was put an an IV to get the nutrients she needed.
Not only did she stop eating, Sienna was constantly bleeding. Her mother would try to keep her from scratching and picking at her face, but it was hopeless. The precious toddler didn’t understand what was happening.
The horrified mother explained, “Every day her skin would be stuck to pillows and there would always be blood everywhere.”
They stopped going out in public because they would receive nasty comments and even uglier looks. It was just too much in the already devastating season. Savina wasn’t a bad mother, but that’s how people viewed her.
Mom, Savina recalled the days leading up the the rash appearing and finally, it dawned on her: A relative had kissed Sienna on the face at her birthday party 8 months earlier. Come to find out, that relative had herpes and they were unaware.
It took 8 months to diagnose the exhausted toddler. Once she was on the right medication the rash subsided. It took some time, but now she is back to her playful-self!
Sienna’s mother shared, “For the past few months, Sienna’s face has looked amazing and the infection has not returned. There is always a chance of it coming back, but fingers crossed it won’t happen and her skin will stay as good as it is now. It’s great to be able to go outside and not get any horrible comments from anyone.”
Praise The Lord it didn’t go on any longer than it did. With thankful hearts, Savina and her precious baby girl want to share this story with everyone. Be cautious of who kisses on your kiddos. Sadly, you can never be too careful.
Thank you Savina for not giving up on your baby and persevering through even the toughest seasons.
