Chip And Joanna Gaines Criticized For Having 5th Baby

Reality television stars Chip and Joanna Gaines have announced that they are expecting a fifth child. While many fans expressed excitement over the news, some social media users blasted the couple for adding another member to their sizable brood.

On Jan. 2, Chip announced on Twitter that Joanna was expecting, disclosing that the baby was conceived following a concert by Johnnyswim in October 2017.

“You might recall a few months back.. the ever amazing, ever romantic [Johnnyswim] was in Waco,” Chip tweeted out. “And they put on a little too romantic of a concert.. anyways, one thing led to another, & we are officially pregnant.”

On Jan. 3, Chip took to Instagram to share a picture of him and Joanna jokingly comparing pronounced stomachs.

“Gaines party of 7 .. (If you’re still confused.. WE ARE PREGNANT),” Chip wrote in the caption.

The real-estate renovators became reality television sensations after starring in the HGTV show “Fixer Upper” in 2013. The Texas couple charmed viewers with their chemistry and “Fixer Upper” became the network’s highest-rating show, according to the Los Angeles Times.

In June 2017, Joanna stated during an interview that she wanted another baby but that Chip was resisting.

“Chip thinks we’re done,” Joanna told People. “I would love to have another baby — or twins! The kids are always asking me, ‘Mom, can you have another baby?'”

In October 2017, Chip signaled that he had changed his mind, disclosing that the fifth season of “Fixer Upper” would be its last partly because he wanted time to have another child with Joanna.

“We had four babies right before the show started, and then we’ve had zero babies since the show started,” Chip told KTRK. “For me, I’m really excited to go back and try to maybe … try to make some more babies.”

The reality star added that keeping up with the show’s schedule had resulted in “all work, no play.”

The upcoming newborn will be the couple’s fifth child, joining Drake, Duke, Ella Rose and Emmie Kay.

Reception to the news was largely positive, though some social media users criticized the couple, according to Us Weekly.

“Thank you for contributing to the overpopulation of the planet,” wrote one observer. “I hope this one will be your last and you will use wiser judgement.”

Some accused the couple of attempting to bolster their marriage with another baby, citing rumors of relationship troubles.

“The ‘we’re back together sex kid’ never fixes a marriage,” wrote one social media user. “Just means one more kid, the marriage is still broken, and now the kid has to do pay for broken marriage sex.”

The negative comments were met with pushback, with one user protesting: “I don’t usually comment but WOW … what a way to take a special moment in someone’s life and use it for a mean spirited rant.”
