Jimmy Carter Stands Up Just Before Takeoff, Then Asks Flight Attendant If He Can Break The Rules

Former President Jimmy Carter is in the headlines after making a rather unusual request and subsequently causing the delay of a commercial airline flight.

It was your typical Delta Air Lines flight, until passengers realized that the 39th president of the United States was aboard.

Jimmy Carter was recorded standing up just before takeoff and inquiring with the cabin crew if he could make an unexpected request.

Carter reportedly asked the flight crew if he could take a few moments to individually greet each and every passenger aboard the Delta flight from Atlanta to D.C.

One man by the name of James Parker Sheffield was aboard the flight that day and uploaded a video of the event. The footage shows Carter grinning ear-to-ear as he walked down the aisle and greeted the surprised passengers. One by one, Carter took the time to acknowledge and shake the hand of every person aboard the flight.

Sheffield told FOX26: “I was definitely shocked. Who expects a president to be on their commercial flight, let alone making an effort to greet every passenger? He didn’t say much because he was also trying to be mindful of the flight needing to leave, but that smile said everything for him. He was very authentic in his interaction with each individual. Everyone seemed genuinely excited and the overall sentiment was that it was really nice to have that kind of moment where party or politics didn’t matter. ”

Shortly after the video was uploaded, dozens of people commented, many sharing their own personal run-ins with the former president.

Despite being 92 years old, Jimmy Carter shows no signs of slowing down. When asked why he made such an effort to connect with strangers, Carter reportedly said, “I was president of all people in the United States, not just some people.”
