If you are the presumptive nominee for your political party’s Presidential race, it’s a pretty safe bet that foreign intelligence services have a dossier on you – if for no other purpose than to spy on you. Every country wants to know who they’re dealing with.
Even though Donald Trump has been in the public eye for most of his adult life, he has enjoyed the private sector for all it’s offered, until his Presidential bid. Yes, he’s been a public figure and a reality TV star, but he now has people inquiring to look into his tax returns and business ventures such as Trump University, which have come under scrutiny for the first time.
If you’re Russia, you might have a hard time getting a spy to infiltrate Donald Trump’s camp to get the dirt on him. So what’s the next best thing?
HACK THE DEMOCRATS!
Robert Deitz, former Senior Counselor to the CIA Director from 2006 until February 2009, and a former General Counsel at the National Security Agency has some interesting thoughts as to why foreign intelligence agencies would be snooping on ‘The Donald’:
“The purpose of such intelligence gathering is to understand the target’s proclivities. Trump’s foreign investments, for example, would be relevant to understanding how he would deal with countries where he has those investments. They may provide tips for understanding his style of negotiating. In short, this sort of intelligence could be used by Russia, for example, to indicate where it can get away with foreign adventurism.”
It’s not like the DNC would be forthcoming with their info on Trump. They may not like him, but they’re certainly not going to give those secrets to the Russians, of all people.
DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said they acted quickly when they realized there was a breach in computer security:
“The security of our system is critical to our operation and to the confidence of the campaigns and state parties we work with. When we discovered the intrusion, we treated this like the serious incident it is and reached out to CrowdStrike immediately. Our team moved as quickly as possible to kick out the intruders and secure our network.”
It’s ironic to see the Democrats actually rallying around Trump to protect him. It’s like a family squabble. You can pick on your own annoying brother, but as soon as someone else does the same thing, the gloves come off and it gets serious.
