Every year people from around the world descend on New Orleans for a time of partying and debauchery called, Mardi Gras. Of course they’re getting all their bad deeds out of the way, because the next day, Ash Wednesday is when they will give it up and fast for 40 days.
For many of the participants they’ll only go into Ash Wednesday with a hangover, and no thought or conviction to repent. In an effort to preempt any of that type of behavior a local church is out in streets of the French Quarter ministering to anyone who will listen.
Dozens of local church members who gathered began singing, Amazing Grace. You might think it’s out of place to be singing such a reverent song in such an irreverent place, but when are these irreverent people going to be in church next? Jesus said, “Go into all the world.” The French Quarter, today like every other day, is part of the world.
You can’t ignore it, there is an interesting calm that settles over this section of the street as believers offer true genuine worship to their Father.
We should all pray that we burn with passion for the lost, and be willing to do what needs to be done to save the lost, and preach Jesus’ redeeming power to a hurting world.
“…But where sin increased, grace increased all the more.”
