We’ve known for a while that this election is the most contentious election in modern history. If before someone would have termed it as explosive, it would have only been figurative. Until now.
The North Carolina Republican headquarters has been firebombed!
As of now it’s unclear who is personally responsible for the attack, but what’s known is that a bottle of flammable liquid was thrown at the building that caused it to go up in flames. Swastikas were painted on a nearby building that read, “Nazi Republicans get out of town or else.”
So much for a people of tolerance, showing how well they do so.
Governor Pat McCrory has released a statement,
“The firebombing of a local political headquarters in Orange County is clearly an attack on our democracy. Violence has no place in our society – but especially in our elections. … I will use every resource as governor to assist local authorities in this investigation.”
Hillsborough Mayor, Tom Stevens says,
“This highly disturbing act goes far beyond vandalizing property; it willfully threatens our community’s safety via fire, and its hateful message undermines decency, respect and integrity in civic participation,”
No one was injured or killed, which is a miracle. It’s rare at this point in the election cycle for these offices to not be occupied by somebody.
This is obviously a form of terrorism. Just because you don’t like someone’s political views doesn’t mean they deserve to die. America should be above these types of actions.
Hillary Clinton condemned the bombing via Twitter,
This is the action of cowards who want to deter voter turnout and try and send a message. The American people do not take to bullies well when it comes to someone criticizing what they stand for.
Local authorities are asking that anyone with information to please come forward and call the police department’s tip line at 919-732-3975.
